Puerto Rico 2003 - More Outings
Somewhere after my first week I went to Castillo del Morro. I had
passed by it on the way in to Old San Juan from the airport. It's
where I saw lots of kites. On my way to the Castillo (fort), I
saw this plaza, near the old San Jose church. I think it was
the Plaza del Quinto Centenario, but I'm not sure.
It had a surprise
fountain in it. I couldn't predict when it would start shooting
water.
I walked up to the fort, but didn't go in - I waited until Elaine
joined me some days later to tour the fort itself.
Sometime later, I went to the Centro de Bellas Artes in Santurce
(Performing Arts Center), to see a ballet performance. It
was a bunch of short pieces choreographed by Ana Garcia, a
pioneering Puerto Rican dancer/choreographer. One featured music
by a dead white man (Schubert or somebody like that), and
the rest were by Puerto Rican composers. Here's the Centro:
Somewhere in there I got an ear infection! Probably from going
to the beach too much - maybe jamming my hearing aid in my
ear too soon after getting out of the water. I went to the
emergency room at a hospital in the Condado. They told me I'd
do better at a clinic at the hospital. So I went to the
clinic instead, got really quick service and it hardly cost
anything at all. The doctor prescribed two meds which cleared
my problem up right away! Here's the emergency entrance:
