Trip to Puerto Rico 2003

William went to Puerto Rico between April 6, 2003 and May 10, 2003. The purpose of the trip was to update some software and perform some training at the EDS remittance center in San Juan. He also took some time to enjoy the island, and Elaine joined him for ten days starting April 17.

Elaine arrives April 17, 2003

My trip to Puerto Rico finally ended on May 9. I worked hard, and successfully completed my business mission there, but I played whenever I had a chance. It was great!

There were a number of things we didn't take pictures of. For example, we went to an exhibit at an art museum that featured artifacts relating to the life of Roberto Clemente. Elaine was especially excited about that because she remembers seeing Clemente play as a member of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Another gap is pictures of the cats on the promenade at night time. Our camera batteries had died the evening we walked there and saw dozens of feral cats lurking among the rocks in the breakwater.

We went twice to a little rotisserie chicken grill in Fajardo, and both times failed to get a picture of the proprietor. He made great chicken, and wonderful rice, but mostly told good stories and was genuinely friendly.

We got a picture of Bebo's grill (another chicken joint, but more established than the one in Fajardo), but didn't get a picture of the server there, who made Elaine place all of her orders in Spanish. No Spanish, no food!

In this summary, we hope we're capturing a little bit of what we could never get in pictures, which was the warmth, friendliness, and joy of the Puerto Rican people that we met.

What a great place. What a great trip.
