Puerto Rico 2003 - The Hotel
I got to the hotel eventually. Here are some pictures from
the El Convento - built originally as a convent associated
with the cathedral next door (long time ago) - its courtyard was
reincarnated as a parking lot early in this century, then it was made into a hotel. It has been operating in its current capacity
since the mid 1990's.
Here are pictures of my room's window (and views from that
window). It featured two full sized
"shutters" that were pretty common in houses all over Old San
Juan. These shutters could shut out the weather, or let the
sunshine in. Most of the houses don't have air conditioning,
so you'd see a lot of shutters open. The hotel did have
A/C, so they were mainly decorative - behind it was a glass
window that had to remain closed when the A/C was on. Here
are also several shots from the window.
These pictures were taken later, but I include them here since
they are relating to the hotel. Here are some scenes
right outside the hotel, plus the courtyard where I lunched
a couple times.
The hotel courtyard from the third floor:
One of the stairwells on the way down to the courtyard - it was
cool because a breeze would always greet you as you headed down
the stairs.
Across the street from the hotel was a little parking lot. They
packed the cars in there, so you had to use valet parking. Here's my favorite valet parking my rental car.
