Snorkeling at Culebra

On Saturday, April 27, we drove to Fajardo to catch a power catamaran operated by a company called East Wind Cats that would take us to the island of Culebra to do some snorkeling. Culebra is less than an hour away from Fajardo, but the seas were really rough (four foot swells), so it was a tough ride for me. We sucked on candied ginger root, which somebody in Maui had told us warded off seasickness. It may have worked, because we didn't get sea sick!

Here are some guys setting up a roadside porkroast on the way to Fajardo. We saw a bunch of these, and chicken roasts, but only went to a chicken roast once (delicious). Roadside pork roast
Here is the Eco Isleņo (our catamaran) and a shot of the other tourists on board getting ready. We didn't get any pictures of the ride over to Culebra because we were too busy holding onto our seats. Eco Isleņo More Eco Isleņo Eco Isleņo interior
We arrived at Culebra, and it was beautiful. Here are pictures: Culebra More Culebra More Culebra More Culebra More Culebra More Culebra

When we were done snorkeling, the Eco Isleņo pulled up anchor and motored over to Flamenco Beach, also on Culebra. It is supposed to be one of the world's most beautiful beaches. It was sure pretty nice, and we had it to ourselves. Flamenco Beach, Culebra People on board the Eco Isleņo Coral reef at Flamenco Beach; jetty at right People not on board the Eco Isleņo
After we lunched and played at Flamenco beach, we went back to Fajardo. The ocean was much calmer for the return trip, and we were able to take a few pictures from the front seat of the Eco Isleņo. The ocean from the Eco Isleņo More ocean from the Eco Isleņo Still more ocean from the Eco Isleņo
