Pacific Northwest April-May 2023

We reserved our last full day in the Pacific Northwest for a mission: to obtain Poulsbo bread to take home and for Peg. Poulsbo bread used to be available nationally, and we got it when we lived in the Washington DC area years ago, and loved it. They have since discontinued national distribution, and the bread is now only available at Sluy’s Bakery in Poulsbo. Poulsbo is on the Olympic Peninsula, not far from Bainbridge Island, so we also had our last ferry rides across Puget Sound.

Elaine and Peg waited in the car while William explored the ferryboat.

Our grand finale dinner with Peg and Karen was at The Oyster Bar on Chuckanut Drive in Bow, WA. It had great views overlooking Samish Bay, from which some of our dinner was harvested!

Entering the Oyster Bar restaurant

William had raw oysters for the first time in over 40 years. Each oyster was from a different location along the Washington coast. One was from the oyster beds we could see from the restaurant. It was the best one

Slurp!

And yum!

Here are the four of us enjoying our last dinner together – until next time!

The sun setting over Samish Bay marked the end of our adventure. The oyster bed is in the middle ground, and Samish Island is on the far side of the bay.
