Pacific Northwest April-May 2023
Elaine and William took off to explore on their own. We went to the Northern State Hospital grounds to take a long quiet walk. The hospital, a former sanatorium, closed decades ago, and was acquired by the state and turned into a park.
The hospital buildings were all in this general style, some more intact than others.
The grounds were gorgeous.
Camellias!
The buildings were locked and tightly shut.
The stables and out buildings were definitely the worse for wear.
Please stay out.
This little cemetery had over a thousand unmarked graves. Very moving.
Another camellia!
Elaine can never resist taking a photo of a camellia
Camellia seed – the source of camellia oil, a healing oil of Galicia.
A camellia tree in the castle garden. The camellia trees in the garden all were exceptionally old (about 100 years).
After a very nice walk at the sanatorium, we went back to La Conner for lunch and shopping.
