Pacific Northwest April-May 2023

This was the day that Elaine was most excited about: she and William love glass art and a full day of it was in store for us all.

Elaine, Karen and Peg waiting for the Museum of Glass to open.

“Fluent Steps”, an installation by Martin Blank. Most of the 734 pieces were made in the museum’s hot shop during the artist’s 45-day residency there.

The museum’s iconic cone houses the hot shop.

Entering the hot shop.

We were able to sit in the hot shop and watch the artisans make vessels like these to supply inventory for the museum’s gift store.

The glass blower and a student assistant work with the glass on a blowpipe.

Two blowpipes come together to connect two pieces of molten glass.

Then back to the glory hole.

Shaping the glass.

Chihuly!

Of course, we stopped in the gift shop and bought Elaine some beautiful red glass earrings. Seattle and lunch were next.

Lunch was at Six Seven. It is housed in the Edgewater Hotel, made famous by the many musicians who stayed there, including the Beatles, who fished in Puget Sound from a hotel window.
