New York 2003 - Our hotel
February 14-15, 2003
Well these pictures aren't really New York. Just before we left we built this
cool snow man. Here it is for posterity.
Here's Elaine having dinner at the Detroit airport before our departure.
Now we skip all the way to our arrival at the Hudson Hotel, part of the international
Ian Schrager hotel chain. It is amazingly funky, and its clientele is generally a lot
younger than we are. The exterior has no sign or address label - you're just supposed
to know it's there - maybe recognize the gas flame outside.
When you enter, you go up this escalator to the lobby.
Here is the chandelier that hangs over the check in desk. They
said it used to be at Studio 54. It has holograms of lightbulbs where the bulbs are
supposed to be.
We admire the room. Most of the rooms at the hotel - a former girls dormitory - are
really tiny. We got a "suite" because we arrived very late (2 in the morning) because
of airplane problems in Detroit; I guess they must have filled up all the smaller rooms.
The hallway was very tiny - you can reach all the way across.
The hotel restaurant is called "The Cafeteria". We had breakfast there, and here are the
chefs in action in the open kitchen
They had a cool garden area full of oversize pots and stuff.
